Collective Worship

"Peace be with you."
"And also with you."

At our Church School, we take great pride in the daily rhythm of Collective Worship, which brings our whole community together in reflection, faith, and shared belonging. Whether gathered in the hall for whole‑school worship or meeting within individual classrooms, the lighting of candles, the offering of prayers, and the singing of worship songs help us to create a sacred and meaningful space for all.

Beginning each worship with a call and response and the gentle glow of a candle creates a moment of calm where our whole school can pause, breathe, and feel held in God’s presence. These treasured routines bring a sense of peace and togetherness, offering our children a space where they feel safe, connected, and valued. Each week, we gather to explore a meaningful ‘Big Question’ that links to our values and Christian vision, helping our pupils think deeply about the world and their place within it.

We would love you to explore our Collective Worship Gallery and browse our termly planners, where you can see the richness of our worship life — lovingly shaped by our school staff, our dedicated Ethos Team, and the wonderful visitors who join us each week. Together, they help make our worship a joyful, inspiring part of every school day.

Our Collective Worship Team

 Ethos Team:

Our Ethos Team plays an integral role in whole‑school worship and contributes to the spiritual life of our community each day. They serve as part of the welcome team, support pupils as they transition calmly and respectfully to and from the hall and classrooms, lead prayers, encourage engagement, and confidently take responsibility for leading elements of our whole-school worship.

During Class Worship, our Ethos Team takes full ownership of the session by supporting classes throughout the school. They confidently deliver the opening, introduce the Big Question, present the stimulus, and lead thoughtful discussion by encouraging talk partners and modelling strong oracy skills. They end the worship thoughtfully, guiding the class in a time of reflection and closing prayer.

Opening:

"And also with you."

"Learning to Love;"

"Loving to Learn -"

"Life in all its Fullness."

Big Question:

Why is Micah 6:8 important?

Stimulus:

Return to one of the songs from last week: https://youtu.be/iT4ztXZtMkI?si=oTzbp9Ykgo4CUEw1

"Micah 6:8" SONGS | Sing the Bible Vol 4 | Slugs & Bugs (youtube.com)

and revisit the Bible verse:

‘The Lord has told you what is good. He has told you what he wants from you: Do what is right to other people. Love being kind to others. And live humbly, trusting your God.’ (Micah 6:8)

Discussion:

Why do you think these words were included in a worship song? How might it help them to speak up about justice and things that affect our world and global neighbours?

Ask the children to listen to the verse/song again and try to spot the words from the prophet Micah.

‘The values he talks about are important to Christians, but are also shared values important to many people.’

As the children listen quietly, ask them to think: how could you do what is right to help other people or show kindness today? Do these things matter whether you believe in God or not?

Response:

You may want to write a prayer about kindness and service on the green cards and place them on your prayer tree. Children will be given an opportunity to respond in written prayer or reflection. This can be done individually, in groups or collectively. Ethos Team will support with this.

Big Question (revisited):

Why is Micah 6:8 important?

Prayer:

Dear God,

Thank you for trusting me with responsibility. Please give me the strength and discipline I need to do it well and a joyful attitude when I work! When a job is taking long and I want to quit, please help me to persevere and be a reliable worker. Help me to do serve as though I am working for You. I want to be like Jesus, faithfully completing the jobs You give me to do.

Amen.
