W.B 1/6/26
Welcome back to our final half term of the year!
This week, Year 5 and Year 6 have been fully immersed in our History topic on World War Two. The children have explored a wide range of primary and secondary sources, including listening to first-hand accounts and carefully handling artefacts from the period. These experiences have helped to bring this important chapter of history to life in a meaningful and engaging way.
Alongside this, pupils have taken part in a variety of creative activities. They have designed their own Ministry of Information-style posters, tackled the challenge of constructing paper Spitfire and Lancaster models, and even created detailed 1940s back gardens, complete with Anderson shelters and “Dig for Victory” allotments.

While these activities have been enjoyable, the children have also demonstrated a consistently mature, respectful and thoughtful approach. They have shown a strong understanding that the events studied are significant and, in some cases, reflect conflicts still taking place in the world today. We are very proud of the sensitivity and maturity they have shown throughout this topic.
Our recent class trip to the Fleet Air Arm Museum was an unforgettable day packed with excitement, discovery, and hands‑on experiences. From the moment we arrived, the children were immersed in the fascinating world of naval aviation.
One of the highlights of the day was the opportunity to dress up in authentic combat gear and flight suits. The pupils loved stepping into the role of pilots and crew members, bringing history to life and sparking their imaginations. It was fantastic to see their enthusiasm as they explored what life might have been like in the air and at sea.
Another memorable experience was climbing aboard the iconic Concorde! We were also lucky enough to explore a real Sea King helicopter. Being able to board the aircraft and look around gave the pupils a deeper understanding of how these helicopters were used in rescue missions and naval operations.
Throughout the day, children showed great curiosity, asked thoughtful questions, and demonstrated excellent behaviour. The trip provided a wonderful opportunity to enhance our learning back in the classroom and to develop a deeper appreciation for aviation history.
