October - Evans
W/C 28th September 2026
We have had a busy and exciting week in Evans Class. Several members of our class stepped proudly into their Ethos Team roles, helping to lead a wonderful Harvest Service. They demonstrated confidence, responsibility and excellent leadership as they shared the importance of Harvest with our school community. Please see our Church Services page for more pictures and a summary.
On Tuesday, we were delighted to welcome the fantastic author Guy Bass, best known for his popular Stitch Head series. He delivered an energetic, engaging and inspiring presentation, speaking to the children about reading, writing and the creative process. The children thoroughly enjoyed hearing about his work and were encouraged to develop their own storytelling skills.

Thanks to the generosity of Appledore Book Festival, every child in Key Stage 2 will be bringing home a signed copy of Guy's latest Hugh Dunnit Mystery book today. We are incredibly grateful to Appledore Book Festival for this wonderful gift, which we hope will inspire a lifelong love of reading in our children.
Over the past few weeks, Evans Class has been immersed in the world of the great Anglo-Saxon epic, Beowulf. Through a range of exciting drama activities, the children have explored the story far beyond the pages of a book, bringing its heroes, monsters and legendary battles to life.

We have been developing our oracy skills by rehearsing and performing powerful heroic speeches, thinking carefully about how great leaders inspire others through their words. The children have also worked collaboratively to recreate some of the story's dramatic battle scenes, capturing the intensity of Beowulf's encounters with Grendel.

The impact of this work has been evident in their writing. Drawing upon their drama experiences, the children have produced some truly awesome pieces of writing, filled with vivid description, powerful vocabulary and a strong sense of character and atmosphere. We are incredibly proud of the effort they have shown and the progress they have made.
We look forward to sharing some of their fantastic Beowulf-inspired writing with you soon!
A group of our Year 5 and 6 children recently completed their Bikeability Level 2 training, and we could not be prouder of them. Throughout the course, the children demonstrated excellent behaviour, maturity and respect, listening carefully to instructions and supporting one another.

The instructor was particularly impressed with the way the children approached the training, commenting that he felt confident in their ability to take responsibility for their own safety and make sensible decisions when cycling on the road. Their positive attitude and commitment were a credit to themselves, their families and our school. Well done to everyone who took part!
