What a fantastic start to the new school year! It has been wonderful to welcome the children back to class and see them settle so quickly into their learning.
Over the past week, we have focused on establishing and consolidating our classroom routines and expectations. The children have worked incredibly hard to ensure that our classroom is a calm, organised and positive place to learn, and we are very proud of the mature attitude they have shown.
In Art, we have enjoyed creating self-portraits, carefully observing our features and experimenting with different painting techniques. These have provided a wonderful opportunity for the children to express their individuality and creativity. Next, we will begin our exciting unit of study exploring the work of the renowned artist, inventor and scientist Leonardo da Vinci, and we look forward to being inspired by his remarkable achievements.
We are excited for the term ahead and all the learning opportunities it will bring!

In Science, we have started our exciting new unit on electricity. The children became electrical engineers for the afternoon as they explored how to build their own circuits using batteries, wires, bulbs, motors, buzzers and switches. Through lots of investigation and discussion, they discovered how each component plays an important role in making a circuit work.
We then moved on to thinking about how scientists and engineers communicate their ideas. The children learned that circuit diagrams provide a shared language that allows people all over the world to understand how a circuit has been designed. They explored the symbols used to represent different components and began creating and interpreting simple circuit diagrams of their own.
It has been wonderful to see the curiosity, teamwork and problem-solving skills on display during our investigations, and we are looking forward to continuing our learning about electricity over the coming weeks.
