September - Farook

It has been so lovely to see the children back in school, filling the hallways with smiles.
We spent Monday:
- Getting to know each other again;
- Recapping the expectations such as SLANT;
- Using the School Values to set aspirations for this year;
- And we even managed a little bit of Art as we explored Impressionism through Georges Seurat's work. Wow!
On Tuesday, we started our groups - what a success!
In the afternoon, we had our first PDW lesson all about what makes the children go "WOW!" about the natural world.
In Maths, we have been working on our partner work.
W/C 14th September 2026
In the afternoons this week, we have continued to get stuck into our Wider Curriculum work 'Living in Early Britain' with Miss Britton as we've learnt how homes changed over time and what archaeological finds have been discovered in the UK that date back to prehistoric times.
In PDW (Personal Development and Worldviews), we have been exploring the idea that the Bible is a bit like an instruction manual for Christians. We did this by attempting to create an origami rabbit first without instructions, and then following step-by-step instructions. Did this mean our finished product was perfect? No. It just meant that we had a better idea of what we were meant to do.

On our Arty Afternoons on Monday, we have been continuing to explore Pointilism, this time with colour mixing (or not!). Georges Seurat would use dots of two or more colours to create the optical illusions that these colours have been mixed to create a secondary colour; yet when you get closer, you would discover they were just dots of different colours. How cool is that?!
On that note, I wanted to offer with my sincerest apologies... No matter how hard I have tried, on Monday's Arty Afternoons, some our Farook lovelies seem to want to bring some paint home with them... on their tops! To remedy this, if you have any old tops that you would like to send in with your child in a named bag, we can use these as a last-ditch effort to save the school tops!
In Reading, we have just finished our first book - The World According to Humphrey - this was a furmidable book and we didn't want to paws reading it!
In Writing, we have been writing some diaries from the point of view of our Stone Age boy in The First Drawing who was desperate for his parents to see what he could see in the clouds and stones.
In Maths, we have been continuing to explore numbers to 10,000 and how we can partition 4-digit numbers.
