What a wonderful first week back we have had!
The children have shown incredible resilience as they have settled into their new classroom and routines. Starting a new school year can be exciting but also quite tiring, and we are so proud of how well everyone has adapted.
We have spent lots of time getting to know one another, learning our new routines and having plenty of fun along the way. In English, we have begun learning about capital letters and when to use them correctly in our writing. In Maths, we have been developing our sorting skills, grouping objects by colour, size, shape and type.
It has been a fantastic start to the year, and we are looking forward to many more exciting learning experiences together!

Taking our Science learning outside!
We have started our science topic on materials and have very busy naming the material different objects are made from. We went outside into the school grounds to find different materials. We found examples of metal, wood, rock and glass. Some examples were even on the end of out noses!

Developing Partner Work Skills
In Year 1, learning is not just about developing reading, writing and maths skills. It is also about learning how to work and learn with others. Throughout the year, we will provide lots of opportunities for children to work alongside a partner, helping them to build important social, communication and teamwork skills.
Partner work encourages children to listen carefully, take turns, share ideas and solve problems together. These experiences help build confidence, develop friendships and teach children how to respect different opinions. Working with a partner can also support learning, as children often learn new strategies and vocabulary from one another.
As children move through school, the ability to collaborate with others becomes increasingly important. By developing these skills in Year 1, we are helping children become independent learners who can work successfully as part of a team while also growing in confidence and resilience.
You may hear your child talking about their learning partner at home. We encourage them to share how they worked together, what they learned from each other and how being a good partner helped them succeed. We are proud of the kindness, cooperation and teamwork our Year 1 children show every day
