Learning to Love; Loving to Learn - Life in all its Fullness

Respect

Compassion

Service

Hope

Aspiration

Forgiveness

Dear Parents and Carers,

What a wonderful week we’ve had in school!

It has been lovely looking through the class pages for March.

Our youngest children in Ashlings have been working hard on their phonics and creating beautiful observational paintings of daffodils. We cannot wait to see these pieces of art brighten up our corridors!

Year 1 have been enjoying The Odd Egg, stepping into character to inspire their writing, even when this was tough, you still showed great hope!

Across the school, everyone has been loving their cricket coaching sessions with Martin. In Years 3 and 4, children have been busy writing imaginative alternative endings to Escape from Pompeii, while Year 5 and 6 have been settling back into routines after their residentials, showing great resilience.

We ended the week with Ashleigh’s Book Day, coming to school in pyjamas or comfy clothes for a joyful celebration of reading. Children enjoyed book‑themed activities and a book swap organised by Mrs Mitchell — we hope they’re thrilled with their new reads! Thank you so much to the parents who took part in this event—your involvement made it possible.

A quick reminder, as well as our formal Parents’ Evenings in Summer Term, we would love to invite you to visit your child’s classroom after school on Wednesday, 18th March. This is a lovely opportunity to look through the children’s books, explore their recent learning, and see the wonderful progress they are making.

This is a great opportunity to have an informal conversation with your child’s teacher. If you would like to discuss anything in more detail or require a more private consultation, please feel free to speak with the teacher after school during the week or request a separate appointment or phone call.

Wishing you all a restful weekend and we look forward to welcoming you into the classrooms next week.

Warm regards,

The School Team

Collective Worship this week...

This week we explored the story of Paul and Silus.

Even when Paul and Silas were thrown into a dark, uncomfortable prison, they didn’t give up. They were tired, hurt, and afraid - but instead of losing hope, they sang songs to God and prayed. Their courage didn’t come from everything being easy; it came from believing that God was with them, even in the hardest moments.

Their story teaches us that:

  • Hope helps us stay strong when life feels difficult.
  • We can choose to keep going, even when things aren’t going our way.
  • There are different ways to cope—singing, praying, talking, breathing, and asking for help.

We explored some questions, such as: What helps you stay hopeful when learning feels tough? How does learning new skills—like reading or problem-solving—help us deal with challenges?

STARS THIS WEEK

Here are the children who have been shining by showing our church value of HOPE this week ...

Hope

But those who hope in

the Lord will renew their

strength

Ash 2: XANDER

We have been incredibly impressed with the hopeful attitude that Xander has been showing towards his learning. particularly his writing. Well done Xander; your efforts are really paying off.

Rayner: ROSIE

Sometimes it can be really hard to leave our grown ups in the morning. Rosie found this really tricky when she first started our school but over the past few weeks I have noticed a hopeful attitude to mornings which means Rosie is able to start school each day with a really positive mindset! Well done Rosie.

Percival: OLIVER

Oliver is our star of the week because he has made a fantastic effort in all of his lessons and tried really hard to be his absolute best.

Duffy: HARVEY

Harvey is always so pleased to help others do well and is always ready to offer help and advice to make things better for all. He sometimes becomes frustrated but when encouraged thinks positively and has another go.

Farook: LINCOLN

This week, we would like to celebrate Lincoln.
He has been growing in confidence recently, and it has been wonderful to see. His oracy is really beginning to shine, especially during Writing and PDW sessions. We are so proud of the progress he’s making - keep holding onto that hope, Lincoln!

Evans: RITA

This week our star is Rita. It is never easy to start somewhere new but Rita already embodies many of our Ashleigh values including "hope".

Shakespeare: FRANKIE

Frankie has had such a good attitude this week. Even when it has been difficult to come back after residential, she has still tried her best. Super Frankie!

Prefects: JOEY

This week our star is Joey.  He's always welcoming and hopeful towards everything.
